How do you perceive paranormal occurrences?

Y’know, I get asked this question every now and again, and it’s usually in the form of “do you see spirits?”.  The answer to that question is “yes” and it’s “no”.  Have I seen spirits before?  Yes, I have.  Did I know they were spirits?  There are a small number of visual experiences I can say, with certainty, I did not know what I was looking at. I didn’t know if they  were spirits, or people, or in the occasional case, if they were any type of “being” at all.  Then there are those super special, rare, cases when I saw a person and realized it was a spirit.  These encounters have always been extremely quick and have almost always sent a shiver up my spine.  So, to say they were memorable would be somewhat of an understatement.  On occasion they’ve actually taken my breath away, simply due to the shock of the moment.

My normal “perception” of spiritual encounters generally comes in the form of “feeling”.  I start to feel closed in.  I also have an overwhelming preponderance for hearing spiritual phenomena.  I can’t hear full conversations, and I don’t usually hear entire sentences unless they’re said really quickly.  And when I’m tired or not “keyed up” while in a paranormally active location, well, that’s when I have my most vivid experiences.   It’s because of this I try very hard to never be caught off guard during investigations, because I’ve had plenty of experiences with “ghosts” in my life that have taught me these situations usually leave me with memories, and questions; lots and lots of questions.  And if there’s anything a paranormal investigator wants more than “answers to questions” I’m at a loss as to what it could be.

The fact of the matter is, we all perceive paranormal environments in ways that are unique to us.  They have to be unique to us because otherwise they wouldn’t be coming from a natural place.  We all see the world differently.  We all experience the world differently.  So it’s natural to understand that when we have encounters with presences not of this realm, we experience that encounter in a way that’s extremely personal.
