She who laughs…

To be a ghost hunter you must possess many different qualities. You must have patience. You must be able to stay awake until the wee hours of the morning with out complaint, (and sometimes without coffee). You must be able to face danger and the things that scare you, (for me, it's spiders). You must not be afraid of the dark. You must be willing to accept that every piece of evidence you put out there will be challenged. You must be okay with the fact that you could potentially take home the occasional uninvited house guest. You must be a good listener. You must possess a lot of batteries. You cannot embarrass easily because there WILL be a time when your digestive system acts up during an EVP session. You must be able to keep a smile on your face as people look at you like you have 50 heads when you tell them you are a ghost hunter. You must have a strong reslove. These are only a few of the qualities that a ghost hunter must possess. The list goes on and on. But I think the most important quality for a ghost hunter to possess is the ability to laugh at yourself. With that said, I will get to the point of this blog.

In our new radio show format we have incorporated a weekly video/media pick of the week. I have volunteered myself to be in charge of finding this video and presenting it on our radio show. This means I get to spend a lot of time sifting through the millions of videos on You Tube that boast paranormal evidence. There are some amazing pieces of evidence out there on You Tube. I have found it really hard to choose just one video each week. I've found videos with evidence containing EVP's, spirit photography, orbs, mists, ectoplasm, poltergeists! When someone puts a piece of credible evidence out there for the world to see, it helps out the Paranormal community as a whole. And I want to personally thank you who've done that. But that is NOT what this blog is about. This blog is  homage to all of the videos I have found that basically make fun of our profession.

When you type in ghosts or paranormal activity, in the You Tube search you WILL come up with hundreds of videos that say they contain REAL Ghost footage. So since it's my job to find these videos, I get to watch them all! Some of the "REAL" ghost footage is a spider climbing across a security camera lens , a lens flare, a reflection or someone's breath on a cold night. You get the idea. All of these videos are simple mistakes that the average person can make.  A small percentage of the videos contain compelling evidence that deserve some serious review. I of course, love these videos because they are exactly what I am looking for. A video with potential evidence that I can showcase and seriously discuss with my peers just makes my day! But then there's the rest…..These videos are hoax videos and videos that mock the work that us serious investigators do. At first I would get so annoyed when I came across these. I'd yell out loud "Ugh! You're wasting my time!" and "Get a life!", but then I found myself laughing at them. Even funnier still were the comments some people would leave. The most common one, "Dude. That's so fake!" and I would find myself saying out loud to my computer screen, "Ya dude.. you THINK?!" The other thing I found pretty entertaining were the angry comments left by people who were unable to see the humor of it all. Paranormal Investigators that were hurt by the blatant mockery of what we do. It left me wanting to message them back saying, "Don't take it so personally. It's all in good fun." After all, isn't mockery a form of flattery?

During the countless hours I spend searching for the perfect video of the week, I have found that these hoax videos have become sort of a welcomed break for me when I come across them. They give me a chance to laugh and relax instead of sitting ridged at the computer screen desperately trying to see or hear evidence that may or may not exist.

Some of these videos are pretty creative. I have to give credit where credit is due! Some of these look as if there was quite a bit of work and time put into them. Some are horribly bad! And I mean "B-Movie" bad! And some are just plain hilarious…and that brings me back to my earlier statement that, a ghost hunter must be able to laugh at oneself. And if you are NOT one of those people then I highly suggest you do not click on any of the links below.  These links contain just a few of my favorite Paranormal spoof videos! So check them out and try to see the humor in it all.  And remember ,  "She who laughs , lasts!"
